Residents come together to help area schoolchildren

Members of the various Riderwood religious communities took the opportunity on Thursday, August 22 to come together to help fill backpacks for school children in need who are getting ready to go back to school in the coming weeks. The supplies were purchased thanks to $6,000 of monetary donations from community members. Overall, the group prepared over 450 backpacks which were donated to Calverton Elementary School. Calverton was selected as about 80% of their students are on government-assisted meal plans. Congratulations to the residents and thanks for helping those in need. (Photos by Courtney Coombs)
