Philanthropy celebrates the latest inductees to the Legacy Society
In a ceremony held on July 11, Pat Vacca and Bill Bowen were inducted into the Riderwood Legacy Society. This honor is received when a resident bequeaths a monetary gift to the community to be received upon their passing. As a symbol of their dedication to the community, members of the Legacy Society have their names enshrined in colorful leaves on the Legacy Tree in the lobby of Montgomery Station. They also receive a golden acorn pin to wear. If residents are interested in learning how they too can join the Legacy Society, contact the Riderwood Philanthropy department. (Photos by Chris Taydus)
Benevolent Care Campaign kicks off with a “star-studded” pep rally
The 2019 Benevolent Care Fund campaign kicked off on Friday, July 19 with a BCF Pep Rally. The event, which included videos, skits, lip sync performances, and a sing-along, was held to draw attention to the importance of the fund and to have some fun while doing it. After a brief introduction by Philanthropy Manager Fiona Divecha, a short parody video of TV sitcom tropes made by Riderwood TV was played. Then, hosts Levern Allen and Shirley Dearfield (posing as the classic television duo of Laverne and Shirley) introduced the various acts and presenters for the event. First up were members of the Riderwood Executive Team who did their best representation of Kool & the Gang by lip syncing along to the song “Celebration.”
Mary Chor, Director of Operations for the Treasure Chest, spoke next about the upcoming Treasure Chest Upscale Resale event in October, which will feature higher-end items that were donated to the store. Evelyn Gehres and Amy Greenwood then pumped up the crowd with their own cheerleader routines about the Benevolent Care Fund. Another lip sync performance was next as Alphonso Westley, Jill Owens, and Mary Preston-Lambert performing two songs by the Supremes. The event wrapped up with some brief words about the fund and a group sing-along with everyone in attendance. The Benevolent Care Fund Campaign runs through the end of August. (Photos by Riderwood TV)
