Riderwood’s Continuing Education Committee wants to alert residents that they now have three sources from which to borrow DVDs of classes offered by the Great Courses Company. The Great Courses are lecture series given by experts. Depending on the topic, there may be 12, 24, 36, or 48 lectures in a course, and each lecture is 30 or 45 minutes long. The courses span a wide range of subjects, including science, history, literature, art, music, photography, cooking, psychology, philosophy, wine tasting, self-help, and others.
Both the Montgomery County and Prince Georges County library systems offer Great Courses classes on DVDs that may be checked out just like books or videos. Residents with library cards may search online catalogs for courses of interest and check them out from nearby branches. Both libraries are also making all these courses available for streaming via a downloadable app offered by RB Digital. Each library’s website has information about this app, which requires free separate registration with a username and password.
Also, the Riderwood Village Square library now offers more than a dozen DVDs in the Great Courses series. According to Paula Hurwitz, chair of the Village Square Library Committee, available titles include “Black Holes Explained,” “The Art of Critical Decision Making,” “Museum Masterpieces: The Louvre,” and “Churchill.” The Great Courses are also for sale on the company’s website,
