The Friday Morning Music Club concert on Sunday evening, May 5, will present two beautiful classics of the chamber music literature which represent extreme dramatic contrasts. The group will start with Robert Schumann’s Piano Trio Op. 80, a mature, technically challenging work that demonstrates Schumann’s command of memorable melodies and exciting intensity.
The second half of the concert will be the Claude Debussy string quartet. This is an absolute favorite of many musicians, with shimmering breath-taking melodies and spine-tingling harmonies. Debussy was breaking entirely new ground when he created this quartet in the French Impressionistic style.
The performers are members of the Friday Morning Music Club: world-class ability local musicians who play pro bono at several area venues like Riderwood. No tickets are required. The performance will be at 7:30 p.m. in the Chapel, and doors will open at 7:00 p.m.
