Do you know what medical treatment you would want if you experienced an emergency, or were facing an end-of-life condition? And, just as important, do your loved ones know what you would want? As part of the National Healthcare Decisions Day (NHDD) initiative, which falls on April 16 annually, we hope to instill the importance of making your wishes known and putting them in writing. NHDD was created “to inspire, educate and empower the public and providers about the importance of advance care planning.” If you would like to learn more about National Healthcare Decisions Day visit https://www.nhdd.org/about/. Please join us for the following events that the Resident Services/Social Work team is sponsoring in March and April.
Kicking off our series to honor the NHDD initiative, Resident Services is hosting CaringMatters, a local organization providing social support services. CaringMatters will conduct a workshop on Advance Care Planning on Tuesday, March 5, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Encore Theater. Come and learn how to have end-of-life conversations with your loved ones, the importance of establishing a healthcare agent, the difference between an advance directive and MOLST, and much more! We hope to give you and your family the gift of peace of mind when it comes to planning for end-of-life.
The Resident Services/Social Work team also invites you to meet one-on-one to review your records and ensure Riderwood has copies of your advance directives/living will and other legal documents for access in the event of an emergency. We will also be available to answer general questions you may have regarding establishing your wishes. Your resident services coordinator (RSC) will be available on the following dates and locations, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, for a brief five- to ten-minute review and discussion: Wednesday, April 3 in the Village Square RSC’s office (Amy Stewart) and Montgomery Station lobby (Emily Preston); Friday, April 5 in the Town Center RSC’s office (Michelle Ferguson), and Monday, April 8 in the Lakeside Commons RSC’s office (Brian Koen).
If you have any questions about any of these events, please contact the Resident Life office, at 301-572-8339.
