Arts Council prepares for Exhibit VII

By Sylvia Reed

Chair, Arts Council of Riderwood

The opening reception for the Arts Council’s Exhibit VII will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 14, in the Encore Gallery in Lakeside Commons. Everyone is invited! The juror, Deborah Maklowski, will be there to answer questions and talk with the artists.

If you didn’t know already, we have a wealth of outstanding artists living and working here. The goal and purpose of the Arts Council of Riderwood (ACR) is to expand opportunities for resident and staff artists to display their creations, with the added benefit of making our community appealing for current and prospective residents.

You also are invited to come to the Encore Gallery at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 20, to learn more about individual works in Exhibit VII. Betsy Brener, a former Corcoran docent, will lead you on a brief walk through the exhibit. Watch for the notice Art Talks on TV, the calendar, and your community bulletin board.

Since juried art is the method of choice for many art shows, the ACR asks a different art professional from the region to select the pieces for each exhibit. So every trimester the call goes out for entries to be juried, and the resulting exhibit is displayed, beginning in LSC, and then moved to MST and VSQ later in the year. All media — wood, glass, oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, clay, ink, paper, stone, marble, metal, fabric, photography — are welcome.

If you have questions, please contact any member of the Arts Council. You will find their names and numbers on the catalogs and brochures by each gallery. We wish to encourage and entice each of you to join us in making our communities inviting by displaying beautiful artwork.
