The Riderwood Earth Day Committee is already planning for activities to mark the 47th anniversary of the first Earth Day in 1970. The theme of Riderwood’s celebration will be Protecting Species Diversity. Proceeds will benefit the Chesapeake Bay Foundation’s educational programs.
Featured events both on April 22 and the days and weeks prior will include a presentation and discussion on the recent World Wildlife Fund Climate Report, the popular jewelry sale, exhibits and films both by Riderwood groups and outside organizations, and a litter pick-up hike. Many more events are in the planning stages.
Committee chair Mary Chor says that more volunteers are needed for planning and staffing of events. She invites those interested to attend the next planning meeting on January 8 at 10 am in the Montgomery Station Card Room.
