Mark your calendars for Tuesday, September 25, at 7:00 p.m. in the Encore Theater for a return visit by renowned writer, broadcaster, and professor Steve Roberts, who will talk about “Why Immigrants Matter–in the DC Area and Beyond.” Tickets are free but required. They will be available in the LSC lobby starting at 6:00 pm on September 25, the evening of the talk.
A journalist for more than 50 years, Mr. Roberts covered some of the major events of his time, from the antiwar movement and student revolts of the 60s and 70s to President Reagan’s historic trip to Moscow in 1988, and included thirteen presidential election campaigns. During his 25-year career with the New York Times, he served as bureau chief in Los Angeles and Athens, and as Congressional and White House correspondent.
He also was a senior writer at U.S. News for seven years, specializing in national politics and foreign policy. Roberts and his wife, TV journalist Cokie Roberts, write a nationally syndicated newspaper column. As a broadcaster, Roberts appears regularly as a political analyst on the ABC radio network.
Roberts has also been a professor at the George Washington University for 25 years, where he lectures widely on American politics and the role of the news media.
The lecture is sponsored by the Riderwood Continuing Education Committee.
