March is Social Work Month: Come meet social workers, old and new!

By Ellen Lebedow
Senior Manager, Social Work

Each March, we take the time to acknowledge social workers across the nation. Social work is a diverse and highly skilled profession that aims to enhance the well-being of individuals, families, and communities. Here at Riderwood, we are fortunate to have a team of  social workers who specialize in geriatric care. In Independent Living, these professionals have the job title of Resident Services Coordinator. In Arbor Ridge on the Skilled Nursing Units, their job title is Continuing Care Social Worker. These professionals are a great resource for you and your family in good times and bad.

Social workers provide a wealth of information on local resources and services to support you, and act as part of an interdisciplinary team along with doctors, physical and occupational therapists, dietitians, nurses, and other health care practitioners. Social workers can intervene in times of crisis, or simply listen empathetically when you are seeking comfort. Often, social workers are working behind the scenes to help accomplish a goal.

Have you ever wondered how your social worker can be of help to you? Come learn more and get to know these staff members at our upcoming Social Work Panel on Thursday, March 22nd from 2-3 pm in the VSQ Classroom. Here, you’ll meet members of the team who work in Independent Living, Short Term Rehab and Long-Term Care. The team will describe their roles and take questions from the audience. We invite all residents to attend, especially our retired social workers, as we would love to hear from you any wisdom that you would like to share!
