The Bella Vocci Team is excited to announce a World Premiere musical event that will come to Riderwood in April. Riderwood resident David Abraham, who is the founder, artistic director, and chief financial sponsor of Bella Vocci, has commissioned composer/arranger Carlos Rodriguez to write a new version of some of the “Songs of the Auvergne,” to make its world premiere in Bella Vocci’s spring concert in April. “Songs of the Auvergne” is a set of 30 folk songs from the south-central area of France, collected and arranged by French composer Joseph Canteloube almost a century ago. Originally arranged for soprano voice accompanied by either piano or orchestra, the songs have been recorded by several leading sopranos, including Victoria de Los Angeles, Kiri Te Kanawa, Frederica von Stade, and Renee Fleming.
The new version by Mr. Rodriguez — well known in the Washington, D.C. music world — is arranged for soprano, mezzo, and bass-baritone, with accompaniment by Mr. Rodriguez on piano. Bella Vocci favorites, soprano Suzanne Lane and mezzo Anamer Castrello, will perform, together with bass-baritone Daren Jackson, who sang in Bella Vocci’s special concert last November. Bella Vocci will keep interested people informed as the project develops. If you would like to be added to the Bella Vocci mailing list, please send your name and cubby address to Paula Cook, KC211.
