Young Russian pianist returns to Riderwood

He was a child prodigy in his earlier years and now at age 16 Anton Nelson can rightfully be called a virtuoso. The Piano Club is delighted to present Anton Nelson in a return engagement two years after his original debut at Riderwood. The concert will take place on Sunday, November 26 at 7:30 p.m. in the Chapel.

Anton is happiest, seated at the piano, studying and practicing the most demanding repertoire, leaning heavily towards his favorite Romantic composers. His astounding technical skills and passionate interpretations belie his young age. He will be performing works by Rachmaninoff, Chopin and Liszt.

According to Anton’s teacher, renowned pianist, Dr. Edvinas Minkstimas, Piano Chair of the Washington Conservatory of Music, “[Anton] shows promise to reach the greatest heights of musical excellence.”

He is currently preparing auditions for some of the most elite competitions worldwide as well as auditions for Juilliard and the Curtis Institute. Some of the leading musicians today, such as Polish pianist Christian Zimmerman and Russian artist, Nicolai Luganski (performing at the Kennedy Center this month) have expressed their endorsement and faith in Anton’s future.

Tickets at $5.00 each will go on sale in all dining room lobbies Monday, November 20 and Tuesday, November 21 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Please plan to get your tickets as early as possible to avoid disappointment.

Anton will have his two newly released CD’s available for sale at $20.00 each in the Chapel lobby following the concert where he will happily autograph each copy (a fine holiday gift for self, family and friends. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to hear a truly gifted young artist.
