The Performing Arts Council welcomes the Capital Focus Jazz Band to the Encore Theater on Friday, August 18 at 7:30 p.m.
The band is the Youth Learning Program of the Potomac River Jazz Club. Its nationally acclaimed program has provided promising young musicians with a grounding in the fundamentals of jazz and specialized training in the traditional New Orleans styles and their offshoots. This enables them to continue the legacies of the giants of American music, such as Louis Armstrong, Jellyyroll Morton, and others.
The band has performed in many venues, including the White House and the Kennedy Center. It took first place at the Traditional Jazz Youth Band Festival in Sacramento and was selected from hundreds to spend ten days with top names in jazz. Also to their credit are gigs in Spain; Café Jaxx in Madrid and Centro Cultural Can Fabra and Libraria General de Aate Martinez Peres in Barcelona.
Tickets go on sale in all dining room lobbies on Monday and Tuesday, August 14 and 15. The Performing Arts Council hopes to see you at the concert.
