If you love the sound of small tiles clicking and voices calling out, “One dot. Four bams. Dragon. Flower. Mah Jongg!” then don’t miss Riderwood’s Annual Mah Jongg Tournament benefitting our Benevolent Care Fund. Riderwood residents who play are encouraged to participate. The players come from near and far to enjoy a day of Mah Jongg, food, and friends.

The event on Thursday, August 10 in Maryland Hall starts at 9:00 a.m. with registration and coffee. Play begins at 9:30 a.m. We will play five rounds in accordance with the National Mah Jongg League rules. A wonderful deli luncheon will be served and there will be a door prize raffle for all participants. A 50/50 raffle will also be held and the prizes are $300 for first place, $200 for second place, and $100 for third place.

Registration for the tournament costs $50 of which $25 is tax-deductible as a donation to the Benevolent Care Fund. Entry is limited to the first 136 players who register.

Past participants have commented to resident players when they meet at other tournaments that Riderwood’s Mah Jongg Tournament is the best in the area. The deadline to register is Friday, July 21. For more information, please call Barbara Breit at 301-586-8152 or Annette Graubart at 301-960-9734.
