From Carnegie Hall to the Chapel

by Estelle Belson
Piano Club Concert Producer

Three young sisters, three talented pianists, all big winners. This is what the Piano Club is happy to bring to residents on Saturday, June 17, at 3:00 p.m. in the Riderwood Chapel.

The girls are not strangers to the community, as they are the granddaughters of Kathy, Lakeside’s popular hair stylist. Kayleigh, 14, and Raelyn Hoang, 12, along with their 7-year-old little sister, Cameron, are remarkable pianists, having won countless competitions on both the national and international level.

Their list of achievements is amazing, climaxing with the two older girls’ wins in the Concert Artists International Maestro Competition. Raelyn won the grand prize for earning the highest score of all participants and Kayleigh was the winner in the young composers category.

They will both perform their winning pieces at Carnegie Hall this month. They have both been invited to repeat their performances in Vienna this coming August where they will receive their diplomas and gold medals at Ehrbar Saal. This famous recital hall was built in 1876, and known to be the favorite venue of Johannes Brahms, Anton Bruckner, and Gustav Mahler.

The girls will be playing a variety of short pieces and will be joined by their friend, twelve year old Nicole Papenfuss, a winner in her own right. The program will include work by Chopin, Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Dvorak, Rachmaninoff and Tchaikovsky.

The Piano Club urges you to mark your calendars and plan to arrive early. Friends and family are also welcome. This is a free concert, but donations will be gratefully accepted at the door to offset expenses.
