The White Oak Chapter of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE) will hold its annual joint meeting with members residing at Riderwood on Monday, May 15. Non-members are welcome to attend the luncheon, but will be charged $10. The meeting will begin at noon in Maryland Hall .
NARFE is the legislative voice and information resource for federal employees and retirees. It is the only organization solely dedicated to protecting and preserving the pay and benefits of all active and retired federal workers. The organization also keeps them informed about legislative issues dealing with retirement income and health care benefits, taxation and cost of living adjustments.
Our guest speaker will be Nancy Floreen, at-large member of the Montgomery County Council, who will discuss issues of interest to our residents. In addition to providing a legislative summary of the past year’s session as it pertains to retirees and seniors, she will also discuss development of master plans across the county and balancing the need for growth with preservation of open space and protection of existing county neighborhoods. Nancy is also currently the chair of the Planning, Housing, and Economic Development Committee. These topics are also of concern to nearby Prince George’s County residents.
NARFE membership is open to current or retired federal government employees, as well as their spouses, former spouses, or surviving spouses for a membership fee of $40. That fee includes the award-winning NARFE magazine which is an excellent source of legislative analysis and reporting of issues of interest to retirees.
If you would like to learn more about it, please join us at the upcoming meeting. If you have any questions, please contact Riderwood resident George Galasso at (240) 293-6840.
