“The Eagle has landed.” Sound familiar? It’s a sentence that entered history on July 20, 1969, when we landed on the moon. It has come to mind lately as just last month we lost Eugene Cernan, the last man to walk the moon’s surface in 1972. The work of NASA is especially meaningful to me as I’m the son of an engineer who was on the team that brought the television images back to earth. I had a “front row seat” to much of the planning and preparation that culminated in quite a feat in the history of our country.
A feat is defined as “an achievement that requires great courage, skill, or strength.” I believe this past month we’ve experienced quite a “feat” here locally at Riderwood. It had much planning and preparation behind it….the launch of Signature Dining. What do you think? Yeah, okay, maybe it’s not as historic. Nonetheless, our team here has achieved a significant, watershed transformation in dining for Riderwood. And, it has required courage, skill, and strength….a feat.
For years the voice of the resident has asked for more focus on food variety and quality. This is what Signature Dining is all about. I couldn’t be prouder of the team’s accomplishment. Is it perfect? No. We will continuously work hard to make our processes better. But, right away there are overwhelmingly positive comments. Here’s one that captures much of what we’ve heard, from the first week we launched. It’s especially gratifying as it comes from a resident who is known for giving well thought out, hard-hitting critiques and challenges to the team: “Congratulations. A marvelous dinner and the list of (always available) Signature Dishes makes it clear that all future dinners will have something I like.”
We’ll continue to make adjustments and listen to your voice. Keep the comments coming! We need to always hear what you’re thoughts are, whether positive or negative. It’s the only way we’ll be able to improve. With that ongoing commitment, we are very pleased to say, “Signature Dining has landed!” Bon appetit!
